Acceptable Use Policy

Short version: don't use Mailcedar to hurt anyone.

Last updated: January 12, 2026 · Version 2.0

Overview

This policy explains how you may not use Mailcedar. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account, with or without notice depending on severity, and we may report criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.

You may not

Send unsolicited bulk mail

Don't send marketing email to people who haven't opted in. This includes "cold outreach" sales prospecting, list-purchasing campaigns, or any bulk email where the recipient hasn't requested it. Personal mail to a few people who didn't expect it is fine; that's how the internet works. Marketing campaigns to thousands are not.

Distribute malware, phishing, or fraud

No malware, no phishing, no business-email-compromise schemes, no impersonation of other people or companies with intent to deceive. This includes hosting or linking to material designed for any of the above.

Harass, threaten, or stalk

No harassment, threats of violence, organized hate campaigns, or stalking. We err on the side of the targeted person when assessing reports.

Send or store child sexual abuse material

Zero tolerance, including imagery and any content that appears to depict minors. We immediately suspend, preserve evidence, and report to the appropriate Canadian and international authorities (NCMEC, Cybertip.ca).

Infringe copyrights or other rights

Don't use Mailcedar to send or store material that infringes someone else's intellectual property, privacy, or other legal rights. We respond to valid DMCA takedown notices and equivalent Canadian Copyright Modernization Act notices.

Break the law of any applicable jurisdiction

Don't use Mailcedar for anything illegal where you are or where the recipient is. This is broad on purpose. Drugs, weapons, financial fraud, tax evasion, sanctions evasion, and the like are not welcome here.

Abuse our infrastructure

No scanning, probing, or attempting to circumvent rate limits or security boundaries. No use of the JMAP/IMAP APIs to relay mail for third parties. No attempt to find vulnerabilities outside of our vulnerability disclosure program.

How we enforce this

We respond to abuse reports at abuse@mailcedar.com. Most reports involve people sending unwanted mail; most of those resolve with a warning and a discussion. A handful require immediate suspension. We document our decisions and revisit them on appeal.

For the most serious categories — child exploitation material, credible threats of violence, active malware distribution — we suspend immediately and preserve evidence as required by law.

Appeals

If we suspend your account and you think we're wrong, email appeals@mailcedar.com from a different address. Include your Mailcedar username and what you think happened. A different team member than the one who decided the suspension will review.

Reporting abuse

If you've received abusive mail from a Mailcedar address, please forward the full message with all headers to abuse@mailcedar.com. We need the headers to identify the source. We confirm receipt within 1 business day.
